SCIENTIFIC NAME : Jatropha tajorensisFAMILY : EuphorbiaceaeCOMMON NAMES :Catholic vegetable, Iyana-Ipaja (Yoruba), Ugu-Oyibo (Igbo), “hospital too far” (Pidgin English)PART(S ) USED : LeavesI made a research on the leaves of this tree and was amazed at the importance of this leaf.My oh my! I put this leaf to test and it didn't fail. My aunty was in the hospital, and needed blood. I didn't know the importance of this leaf in my garden. I washed the leaves and squeezed out the water and rushed to the hospital to give her. She slept for 2 hours and when she woke up she was so strong and healed. She was discharged this evening. I decided I must share this with those who care to know because it might save a life someday.

I also hear some seriously ill person bath with the water. I want to give a big warning about plucking the leaves PLEASE USE GLOVES OR NYLON BECAUSE IT SCRATCHES THE SKIN but the itch does not last for long but it's uncomfortable. Once it's used as vegetable for your soups and sauces, or once it's squeezed like bitterleaf for drinking it does not scratch at those points. The edible part is its leaves.
